The firm of Douglas were unconventional on at least two counts. While their rivals were virtually all producing singles, or the occasional vee twin, Douglas plumped for a horizontally opposed twin cylinder design; not only that but instead of making motorcycles in the Midlands or London their factory was located in Bristol! Nevertheless, as the motor-cycling movement evolved and grew during that frantic first quarter century, Douglas were well to the fore confirmed by the popularity of these gentle if unusual twins in classic circles today.
